Dan Deacon sets up multi-act 'Round Robin' tour

Synth-rock absurdist Dan Deacon will rector an unusual slate of shows this fall featuring many of his hometown friends acting in what he terms a "round of golf robin" format.

The Baltimore-based creative person has poised 29 acts, most of them from his hometown and many sharing his Carpark Records label association, and will present them on alternating nights during a seven-city, 14-date enlistment that kicks off Oct. 2 in Boston.

The shows--two in each city--will jump between the so-called "Eyes Night" (featuring Beach House, Jana Hunter, Wzt Hearts, Nautical Almanac, Lexie Mountain Boys and others) and "Feet Night" (Deacon himself, along with The Death Set, Videohippos, Adventure, Future Islands and a few others), with acts in a tierce grouping, "Weird Round" (featuring, among others, Mark Brown, Showbeast and Sports Ghosts), popping up randomly passim each evening's sets.

According to a press release, the artists involved will move around about using "veggie powered" vehicles, and the "round robin" construct will come into play during each show as the artists set up their equipment "along the perimeter of the room," with the audience in the middle, and play in a circle, one after the other, with no breaks in between.

Deacon, regarded is supporting last year's "Spiderman of the Rings" release. A few tunes from the set are streaming at Deacon's MySpace page.

According to Deacon's record label, Carpark, the performer is currently wrapper up yield on "Bromst," the full-length follow-up to "Spiderman." The set is tentatively ascribable early succeeding year.

Burning Q's: Why All the Midweek Movie Releases?

What's with movies chess opening up on Wednesdays? First Pineapple Express and now Tropic Thunder as well.

Vietnam Gives Glitter the Boot

Gary Glitter is Great Britain's problem now.

Prince cancels Ireland gig

Prince has cancelled his Croke Park concert in Dublin.

People who had been going to the event, due to take place next Monday (June 16), will be fully refunded for their tickets and booking fee from 9am this Friday (June 13).

The official statement from concert promoters MCD said: "It is with great disappointment that the Prince concert scheduled to take place at Croke Park next Monday 16th June 2008 will no longer be taking place due to reasons beyond the control of Prince and MCD Productions."

The statement concluded: "MCD & Prince wish to apologise for the inconvenience caused to the 55,161 patrons who purchased tickets, to Croke Park, their customers and all the individuals who have worked tirelessly to bring the show to Dublin."
